WBC

The Women’s Basketball Championship (WBC) has replaced the Women’s Basketball League (WBL) in 2009.

The WBC, a joint venture between Basketball New Zealand and teams and associations, will feature nine teams from around the country, with three three-day tournaments played at North Harbour, Dunedin and Wellington.

The inaugural WBC team include the Harbour Breeze, NZ Academy, GABBA Gators, Waikato Cougars, Waikato Wizards, Taranaki Trojans, Wellington Swish, Canterbury Wildcats and Otago Gold Rush.

Tournaments will be held at AUT and the Breakers Gym, North Harbour, June 18-20; The Edgar Centre, Dunedin, July 23-25; and Southwest Stadium, Wellington, August 20-22.

Invitation teams will fill out the 10-team draw at each tournament, with Tai Tokerau attending North Harbour, Southland in Dunedin, and Hutt Valley at Wellington.
