FIBA Organizer & SportingPulse Training
At the 2010 Basketball New Zealand AGM we outlined the 7 key pillars of our strategic plan, ‘Making the Change’ - One of these ‘changes’ is an improved implementation of a National Database. These have been spread over the course of three years and are outlined below:
2011 – One of the priorities and key actions is to implement a national database
2012 – From the 1st January, uploading to the national database is mandatory for all BBNZ members
2013 – One of our goals by 2013 is to have a robust database of registered players, with a 10% growth in registered players annually.
In partnership with FIBA Oceania, Basketball NZ conducted the first FIBA Organizer Training Courses earlier this month. 49 participants from 27 Basketball Associations attended the trainings, which were held in 6 locations in the north and south island of New Zealand. An additional 2 day program was conducted for the BBNZ staff in their Wellington office.
The courses were facilitated by FIBA Oceania’s Judy Smith, with assistance from Maree Taylor and Peter Kadar from Basketball New Zealand. The trainings aimed to enlist the support from associations for the creation of an accurate national membership database, and to educate the associations on using the membership database, the competition manager in FIBA Organizer, the website and the integration of the website with FIBA Organizer. During the course, participants were also shown the associations how FIBA Organizer integrates with FIBA Live Stats and Stadium scoring.
While all involved thought the course a great success as a result of the participation numbers, the proof will be in the changes which take place over the coming months in the use by the member associations of the software.
Survey results taken at the conclusion of each course showed that almost 100% of the participants believed that an accurate membership database at all levels is essential to develop basketball in New Zealand. We all hope that this survey result is translated into regular and accurate membership uploads from all of the associations.
