Adams tipped as top rookie

Kiwi Steve Adams has been voted pre-season Big East Rookie of the Year, as his University of Pittsburgh Panthers prepare to open the US college season.
Adams was a the standout player in this month’s annual Blue-Gold scrimmage – the traditional first event of the Panthers’ schedule – when he had a 14 points/11 rebounds double double in Blue’s 65-55 win.
In Turkey, Kirk Penney’s TED Kolejliler side suffered their first loss of the TBL season, edged 79-77 by traditional powers Fenerbache Ulker.
The newly promoted Kolejliler (1-1) led by a point at halftime, but conceded a 27-19 third quarter that put them in a hole they could not climb out of.
Penney continued his good form with 18 points (8/12 FG, 1/4 3pt, 1/3 FT), four rebounds and two assists in a team-high 38 minutes.
In Australia, Tall Black guard Everard Bartlett chipped in 12 points, including 3/5 3pt, in as many minutes, as Perth Wildcats continued their unbeaten start to the NBL Championship with a 74-65 road win over Melbourne Tigers.
Kiwi Angela Marino helped keep her Adelaide Lightning to a pair of wins on their WNBL Queensland road trip with 18 points (4/9 3pt) and five assists in a 80-65 win over Townsville Fire. Two nights earlier, Adelaide also toppled Logan Power and are now 3-1 for the season.
