Just as Youthtown Auckland Stars forward Casey Frank did last week, Waikato Pistons point guard Jason Crowe collected his second Player of the Week award in round five of the Dominion Finance NBL.
Crowe, who posted the NBL’s first triple-double in round three since computerised stats were recorded in 2000, came up two assists and three steals short of a rare points-assists-steals triple-double as the Pistons remained undefeated at 4-0 with a 89-82 win over the Appliance Shed Harbour Heat on Saturday.
Crowe finished with 26 points, shooting 9-of-18 from the floor, with three rebounds, eight assists and seven steals in 34 minutes.
The American guard, who increased his lead in the NBL Player Power Rankings to seven points, narrowly edged out Devon Dynamos Taranaki forward Link Abrams by two points for the round five POW.
Abrams averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds in Taranaki’s Southern double-header sweep. Pistons running-mate Brian Wethers, Cartridge World Otago Nuggets import guard Lemar Gayle and Century City Wellington Saints forward Arthur Trousdell filled out the top-five for round five.
