Kiwi Kim Barnes made an impressive debut for UC Irvine as the US college pre-season got under way over the weekend.

The Counties Manukau forward was faultless from the free throw line in the Anteatersí 108-66 win over Cal Baptist. Barnes had 14 points (2/8 FG, 10/10 FT) and four rebounds in 21 minutes.

Rotorua centre Te Awhina Aranui was also on song early with a pair of ìdouble doublesî as Cascade College enjoyed victories over Walla Walla University (86-58) and Simpson University (81-58).
Aranui compiled 20 points/18 rebounds against Walla Walla, then 13/15 against Simpson.

Tall Fern guard Micaela Cocks showed the benefits of her experience with the national team over the US summer, hitting four three-pointers among her 14 points off the bench for University of Oregon in a 92-45 win over University of Western Oregon.

At Washington State University, Harbour guard Kezia Kelly featured on debut as the Cougars beat University of Southern Oregon 72-62, scoring nine points (3/10 FG, 1/2 3pt, 2/3 FT).

NZ Tall Fern point guard Angela Marino had 11 points to help Adelaide Lightning defeat Sydney University Flames 89-84 at home in the Australian Defence Forces WNBL.

With Australian Opals guard Erin Phillips back from injury, the Lightning sounded a warning that their early season form was no fluke, edging away down the stretch against the previous league leaders.
Marino shot 4/9 FG, 3/6 3pt and added an assist in 24 minutes as Adelaide improved to 5-1.
