Gold Coast Blazeís player portfolio is further expanding this week, with the addition of NZ Tall Black Casey Frank to the Australian National Basketball Leagueís latest franchise.
Originally from the United States, Frank joined the Philips Championship in 2003, playing for the New Zealand Breakers, the Sydney Razorbacks and the Wollongong Hawks before signing with Gold Coast Blaze.
Frank has amassed a great deal of international experience, beginning his career playing US college basketball before representing Paris SG in France, Sallen in Sweden and with the Auckland Stars in New Zealand, then heading to Australia.
Gold Coast Blaze coach Brendan Joyce said the team was well and truly starting to take shape, with the signing of three high profile players in Scott McGregor, Ben Melmeth and now Frank.
ìAs we continue to announce more players, the rest of the League can see that the Blaze will be a serious contender in its inaugural season,î Joyce said.
Frank has made a name for himself as one of the most ferocious dunkers in the NBL, which will make for some entertaining play in the coming season.
Coach Joyce recruited Frank to Wollongong and helped him rekindle his confidence, which was demonstrated by him having his most consistent season.
ìl am delighted to have Casey at the Blaze and around for the next few years while we aim to build this franchise into a successful program. Casey is a high-energy tough guy that can have a impact as a starter or off the bench,î Joyce said.
Frank has experience playing for his country, being selected in the New Zealand Tall Blacks squad for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
