Former Junior Tall Black Corey Webster (Photosport)

Former Junior Tall Black Corey Webster continues to improve in his freshman season with Lambuth University, leading them to a 92-65 win over Bethel College in US college basketball.

Webster had 20 points (8/15 FG, 4/7 3pt), four assists and three rebounds in 25 minutes as the Eagles improved to 20-3 for the season and 12-2 in the TranSouth Conferece.

In the last three games – all wins – Webster has averaged 20.0 points (48.9% FG, 52.4% 3pt).
Emerging Tall Black Mada Abdelhamid had nine points (4/14 FG, 1/5 FT), 12 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block as Houghton College lost 54-94 to Mount Vernon Nazarene University, falling to 7-14 for the season.

Former North Harbour guard Ryan Beesley averaged 7.5 points (4/8 FG, 3/5 3pt, 4/6 FT), 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as Oregon Tech won both games of a road doubleheader, defeating Warner Pacific 79-69 and Cascade College 82-64.

The Owls are now 22-4 for the season, riding a five-game winning streak.

Emerging Tall Black Christopher Reay had six points (3/6 FG), 10 rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal in 31 minutes as Midwestern State University inflicted a 79-65 loss on Tarleton State University.

The result was Tarleton’s first Lone Star Conference loss this season and boosted the Mustangs to 11-10, 3-4 in conference play.

Kiwi Jeremiah Trueman provided a spark off the bench for University Alaska Anchorage as they extended their winning streak to 17 games with a 67-53 result over Alaska Fairbanks.

Trueman chipped in eight points (3/4 FG, 2/2 FT) and three rebounds in 12 minutes as the Seawolves improved to 91-3 for the season and 10-0 in the Great Northest Athletic Conference. They are also ranked #1 in the NCAA Div II West Region poll.

Gisborne-born Aron Baynes had seven points (2/3 FG, 3/4 FT), five rebounds and a steal in 25 minutes as Washington State University overwhelmed University of Southern California 74-50.

Emerging Tall Black Tom Abercrombie also got on the court for the Cougars, logging an assist in two minutes.

In the Australian Hummer NBL Championship, Canterbury point guard Jeremy Kench helped the beleaguered Wollongong Hawks account for West Sydney Razorbacks 111-106, hauling themselves clear of the cellar.

Kench enjoyed 23 minutes on court for eight points (3/5 FG, 2/2 FT), five assists and four rebounds.

Across the court, fellow Kiwi Tony Rampton started for the Pigs, contributing four points (0/4 FG, 4/4 FT), six rebounds and a block in 20 minutes.

The Hawks are now 9-19 for the season, just behind the 10-19 Razorbacks.

Kench had earlier scored 12 points (3/5 FG, 1/2 3pt, 5/6 FT) in a 94-115 loss to defending champions Brisbane Bullets, adding three assists, two steals and two rebounds in 20 minutes.

For the Bullets, Tall Black Craig Bradshaw had 17 points (5/10 FG, 1/3 3pt, 6/7 FT), nine rebounds and block in 31 minutes as a start, helping them to 19-10 and securing third spot in the regular season standings.

Tall Black Dillon Boucher returned from what seemed like a season-ending hip injury last month to contribute four points (2/4 FG), six rebounds, six assists and a block for Brisbane against Wollongong.

Bradshaw also had 13 points (5/8 FG, 1/1 3pt, 2/2 FT), seven rebounds and an assist in 29 minutes as the Bullets fell 100-117 to the Townsville Crocs.

Tall Blacks Pero Cameron and Casey Frank were unable to raise the Gold Coast Blaze over regular season champions Sydney Kings, losing 81-88 at home.

Cameron had nine points (2/8 FG, 1/5 3pt, 4/5 FT), six assists and five rebounds in 29 minutes, while Frank contributed 13 points (6/8 FG, 1/3 FT), eight rebounds, three blocks and an assist in 37 minutes.

Gold Coast are now 15-13 and safely in the playoffs.

In Romania, former Tall Black coach Tab Baldwin suffered a heartbreaking 76-78 loss as his U-Mobilteco Cluj Napoca fell to Targu Mures in the FRB. Mobilteco rallied from 12 points adrift entering the final period, but wound up short.

The rivals now share 9-7 records.

Tall Black point guard Mark Dickel continued to revel in his return to Turkey, providing five points (1/3 FG), seven assists, three rebounds and a steal as Selcuk Univ beat Oyak 72-62 in the TBL.

Selcuk are now 6-13 for the season as they scramble clear of relegation.
