Tall Black captain Pero Cameron helped Gold Coast Blaze to a 101-80 home win over Cairns Taipans in the Australian Hummer NBL Championship.
His 11 points (3/7 FG, 5/5 FT), five assists, four rebounds and a steal in 33 minutes sparked the Blaze, who are now 5-4 in seventh on the points table.
Fellow NZ international Casey Frank had six points (3/7 FG), three rebounds and an assist in 18 minutes off the bench for the expansion franchise, while Waikato Pisons import Jason Crowe had 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a steal.
Canterbury point guard Jeremy Kench continued to take advantage of his court time with the Wollongong Hawks, but his team fell 108-115 on the road to the rejuvenated South Dragons.
Kench had eight assists in 27 minutes off the benching, adding six points (0/2 FG, 6/8 FT) and two rebounds. Kiwi team-mate Lindsay Tait could not find his shot, also contributing six points (3/11 FG), four rebounds and three assists.
In Greece, former Tall Black coach Tab Baldwin fell to 0-3 with PAOK Thessaloniki after losing 57-70 to Marousi in the HEBA Championship. PAOK trailed 8-26 after the opening period, but had cut the deficit to seven points entering the final quarter.
Tall Black point guard Mark Dickel was promoted into the starting line-up for Bamberg, but the German champions lost their first game of the Bundesliga, falling 64-65 to Braunschweig.
Dickel missed his only shot – a three-pointer – and had three assists in 21 minutes.
Last week, Bamberg fell 61-66 to reigning champions Panathinaikos in Euroleague play with Dickel contributing six rebounds and three assists off the bench.
In US college pre-season results, Kiwi guard Corey Webster featured in Lambuth UniversityĆs 98-70 win over Reinhardt College at the Freed-Hardeman Tournament, contributing six points (2/6 FG, 2/2 FT), four rebounds and three assists off the bench.
Centre Alex Pledger led University of Missouri Kansas City in rebounding in a 94-51 win over Harris-Stowe. He had two points (1/4 FG) nine boards and a block in 12 minutes.
