Waikato Pistons captain Pero Cameron will be free to take the court tonight after being cleared of unduly rough play on Wednesday.

A Basketball New Zealand judicial committee determined yesterday the Tall Blacks forward had no case to answer, stemming from an on-court incident in the Pistons 92-84 loss to the Appliance Shed Harbour Heat in round 14 of the Dominion Finance NBL on Thursday, May 29.

Cameron was whistled for an unsportsmanlike foul when he forcefully pulled Heat forward, and Tall Blacks team-mate, Mika Vukona to the floor around the shoulders with his forearm, after jumping to defend Vukona near the basket.

“The judicial committee set-up to investigate this incident was satisfied with how the referees dealt with the incident and upon viewing the game footage was of the view that the incident was accidental and not intentional and decided that Cameron had no case to answer,” BBNZ CEO Dale Stephens said.

“I had a long chat with Pero Cameron, who expressed regret for the incident and concern that he did not want his actions to tarnish the sport. He has apologised to both Mika Vukona and to BBNZ for any inconvenience his actions may have caused.”

Cameron will be in action tonight at ASB Stadium, Auckland, as the Pistons (12-5) try to halt a three-game losing streak and secure a home semifinal in their regular season finale against the Youthtown Auckland Stars (9-8).
