A stunned Pero Cameron is contemplating his next coaching move after his Gold Coast Blaze club was tossed out of the Australian NBL.
The Tall Blacks legend is now without a job after playing for the Blaze between 2007-10 before taking up an assistant coach position.
Yesterday, Basketball Australia (BA) said the Blaze’s owners had decided to withdraw from the league after battling serious financial difficulties.
BA supported a new community ownership model in principle but acting chief executive Scott Derwin said a promised A$500,000 from a “mystery supporter” and more than A$1 million in unspecified revenue from sponsors and others “won’t cut it”.
“I could be better,” Cameron said from the Gold Coast yesterday, after recently returning from the Tall Blacks’ failed Olympic qualification bid in Venezuela.
“I was just getting over the jetlag but it’s going to be hard to get over this.
