Canterbury Basketball Association is seeking entries for the 4th Annual Junior International Tournament (JIT) over Easter Weekend 2008 (March 21-24) in Christchurch.
The JIT attracts a large number of entries from around the South Island with teams using the tournament to gear up for the southern premierships, which are qualifying tournaments for nationals.
The tournament is open to all association or club teams from across New Zealand and abroad. QEII, Bishopdale and Cowles Stadiums will be the venues (depending on team entries), which are good quality basketball facilities.
Entry is $300 for NZ-based teams, with overseas teams charged $150.
The age groups operating at the JIT are U17 Boys, U17 Girls, U19 Girls and U19 Boys. Local school and club teams are more than welcome to enter the U19 grade.
International school, club and association teams are welcome to enter any of the grades. The grades offered have been reduced due to changes in the BBNZ tournament calendar, but CBA intend to extend an invitation to you in 2008 for a Queens Birthday U13 and U15 tournament.
The tournament is also ideal for referee development with referee coaching available throughout the weekend. CBOA encourages associations to bring your developing officials to take advantage of the training and evaluation available.
If your team can not supply a referee, they can contact the Canterbury Basketball Officials Association.
Alan Godden will be running a Level 1 Evaluators Course during the tournament if there is sufficient interest. There will be a small cost involved to cover manuals and meeting room hire.
Associations might like to take advantage of an opportunity to upskill their referee trainers.
Remember to mark Queens Birthday in your planning for 2008 … more information on this will be released March 2008.
