NZ Tall Black Phill Jones was again to the fore, but his Italian Lega A season came to an end when Tisettanta Cantu crashed 60-91 in Game Three of their quarterfinal series with playoff top seeds Montepaschi Siena.
Cantu were always on the back foot, falling behind 9-28 over the opening quarter and never mounting a serious comeback. Jones had 13 points (5/12 FG, 3/5 3pt) and four rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
He also had 15 points (4/8 FG, 3/5 3pt) in Cantu’s 82-97 Game Two loss.
Meanwhile, former Junior Tall Black Lance Baker shot the lights out for Gold Coast Goannas in his Queensland Australia Basketball League debut, helping them to a 146-126 win over South West Metro Pirates.
Baker finished with 34 points (11/15 FG, 10/13 3pt, 2/2 FT), four rebounds, two steals and an assist off the bench, but wasnÃt the standout performer. Team-mate Tony Zeremba had 46 points/17 rebounds.
Kiwi Zane Meehl returned to action for Maroochydore Clippers, contributing 25 points (7/20 FG, 5/13 3pt, 6/7 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in their 82-79 win over Caloundra.
