Tall Ferns guard Micaela Cocks led her Sandringham Sabres to an upset 76-60 win over Bendigo Braves to keep their chances alive in the South East Australia Basketball League playoffs.

Facing elimination against their higher-ranked rivals – Bendigo were 16-10 through the regular season – the Sabres (12-14) led 41-33 at halftime, but needed a 19-6 final-quarter rampage to finally draw clear on the road.

Cocks played the entire 40 minutes to lead all scorers with 24 points (9/18 FG, 1/2 3pt, 5/6 FT).
The result means Sandringham now face Geelong Supercats for a place in the East Conference final against Dandenong Rangers.

Geelong were blown away 73-45 by the Rangers in the weekend’s major semifinal.
