Waikato Pistons import Jason Crowe has won Player of the Week for Round 12 of the Australian HUMMER Championship NBL season after connecting on a jaw-dropping 10-of-14 three pointers to help the Gold Coast Blaze beat South Dragons 127-116.
Crowe scored 33 points with a 73% field goal percentage, and also added eight assists, two rebounds and one block to beat out NBL veterans Chris Anstey and Shane Heal for Player of the Week honours.
So far this season, Crowe is averaging 18.8 points per game and also sits fourth in the league in assists with 5.2 per match. He joined the Waikato Pistons midway through the 2007 Dominion Finance NBL and has already re-signed to return next season.
Player/coach of the South Dragons, Heal led the league in scoring this week with 37 points and added four rebounds and five assists, but his efforts couldn’t stop the Dragons going down to Crowe’s Blaze.
Melbourne Tigers star Anstey had a remarkable double-double, scoring 22 points and adding 21 rebounds in his team’s win over Perth that made him another leading contender for the weekly award.
Others in consideration for Player of the Week included Tall Black Kirk Penney (NZ Breakers), who had 29 points in a loss to the league-leading Sydney Kings.
