Emerging Tall Black Chris Daniel produced a game-high 29 points for the Singapore Slingers last week

With three starters out, Chris Daniel took it upon himself to steer the Singapore Slingers home last week.

Daniel scored 29 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line as the Slingers defeated the Malaysian All-Stars 92-80 on Wednesday as part of the Singapore Exhibition Series.

With Darren Ng, Blagoj Janev and Eric Sandrin out with injury, Daniel stepped up to lead all scorers with 29 points, and along with Australian John Fitzgerald helped create the winning break in the third quarter.

Daniel also added four rebounds, three blocks and two assists and dropped one of his three three-point attempts.

In Australia, former Tall Black Casey Frank had nine points (3/6 FG, 0/1 3pt, 3/6 FT), nine rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes and Tall Blacks captain Pero Cameron had two points (1/3 FG), three rebounds and an assist in four minutes as the Gold Coast Blaze ended a 10-game losing streak to start the season, defeating the Townsville Crocodiles 115-106 at home on Wednesday.

But it was back to losing form on Saturday as the Blaze fell 95-83 to the ANBL-leading South Dragons in Melbourne.

Frank had seven points (2/4 FG, 0/1 3pt, 3/4 FT), three rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes while Cameron went scoreless in 12 minutes of work for the Blaze, and Tall Black Mika Vukona rattled off eight points (4/4 FG, 0/2 FT), seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in 20 minutes for the Drags, winners of seven straight.
