Harbour forward Petra Erceg provided the impetus for the NZ Junior Tall Ferns as they overcame Northern Territory 65-48 at the Australian U18 Championships in Launceston.
Erceg recorded a ìdouble doubleî of 16 points (7/14 FG, 2/2 FT) and 12 rebounds (seven offensive), adding two assists and a steal as the Kiwi women notched up their second victory of the tournament.
New Zealand began strongly, led 40-15 at halftime and hung on against an NT comeback over the final quarter. They dominated their opponents around the boards, but still managed to shoot a lower percentage (33.8) from the field.
The result took the juniors to 2-2 in pool play, which they complete against Victoria Country on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the NZ Junior Tall Blacks remained winless with a 62-92 loss to North Queensland. Harbourís Sam Butler led the Kiwis with 18 points (5/6 FG, 3/4 3pt, 5/5 FT), but they struggled to compete around the boards and were outrebounded 27-25 at their own end.
