Basketball New Zealand

Basketball New Zealand invites expressions of interest for the following voluntary positions with 2009 national age group programmes.

Coaches (head coach, assistant coach & apprentice coach)
Technical coach (video technician)
Manager

Programmes include the following activities …

• U16 men & women– Australian State Champs, July

• U18 men & women – Australian Olympic Youth Festival, January & Australian State Champs, April

• U19 men (Junior Tall Blacks) – FIBA World Championships, July

• U17 men & women (Emerging Junior Tall Blacks & Emerging Junior Tall Ferns) – FIBA Oceania Championships/2010 FIBA World Championships

• All-New Zealand National Camp – January 21–31, 2009 & 2010

• Ongoing BBNZ Performance Group development programmes

Individual positions in specific team and/or camp programmes will be filled by coaches and managers committed to BBNZ Performance Group programmes only.

Please note, at this stage, individuals should not outline interest in specific programmes. This process is for BBNZ to gauge willingness to be involved in BBNZ Performance Group programmes, including the activities outlined above.

All candidates must possess the following general attributes:

  • Committed and enthusiastic to be involved in BBNZ programmes, displaying loyalty to BBNZ, the Performance Group programme and personnel
  • Will act as a positive ambassador and spokesperson for BBNZ
  • Demonstrated commitment to a long term athlete-centred development
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills
  • Willingness to share information and experiences with other members of the basketball community
  • A willingness to contribute to BBNZ development initiatives and underpinning programmes (clinics, workshops, camps etc)
  • Actively pursuing other opportunities for professional development
  • A member in good standing of their respective association/school

Coaches must possess the following basketball attributes …

  • Advanced level of coaching certification
  • Knowledge of technical and tactical aspects of basketball
  • Understanding of international basketball and demands placed on athletes, coaches and teams at the international level
  • Knowledge of the required skill and training levels for elite athletes at the junior level (U19)
  • Familiarity with the talent pool in New Zealand would be advantageous
  • Experience dealing with elite athletes and coaching at the national or international level
  • Demonstrated history of coaching success at the highest levels of competition
  • Willingness to assist the Performance Group in implementing a national philosophy and common playing outcomes
  • Actively coaching within association/school programmes

Managers must possess the following attributes …

  • Familiarity with BBNZ, the New Zealand sport system and basketball environments
  • Sound administration and budgetary skills adhering to all BBNZ policies and procedures
  • Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills, as well as creative thinking skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritise appropriately in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in conjunction with coaching staff and the BBNZ office to satisfactorily execute programme requirements
  • Experience travelling internationally and adaptable in dealing with different cultures and customs

  • Current coaching/manager activities (last two years)
  • Coaching/manager CV (no more than one page)
