FIBA Agents’ Test

As of December 31, 2008, basketball’s world governing body, FIBA, required sports management agents who represent players in negotiating international transfers to be accredited by FIBA.
Both Basketball Australia and Basketball New Zealand also require those who arrange purely domestic transfers to be licensed by FIBA.
From January 1, 2009, it has been a requirement that all letters of clearance for players must include the agent’s licence number certified by FIBA.
As part of the ongoing certification process for players’ agents throughout the world, a test may be conducted in Sydney during October, 2009 by the vice president of FIBA’s Legal Commission, Ken Madsen, provided there is sufficient demand for such a test.
The test would take place in Sydney at Basketball Australia Headquarters in the suburb of Mascot.
The process to become an accredited agent includes:
1 Completing a formal application to sit for a test
Such applications must be accompanied by:
- A $250 AUD ($310 NZD approx) administration fee for the test
- Two passport-style photos
- Two business cards
- A police certificate (referred to in Australia as a National Search)
2. Provided that an applicant passes the test, FIBA then invoice for their annual fee of 1000 Swiss Francs ($1370 NZ Dollars approx)
3. When the FIBA fee is paid, the formal FIBA accreditation is issued and the new agent’s name is then listed worldwide on the FIBA website as an accredited agent.
