Appliance Shed Harbour Heat have suffered an injury scare ahead of their Dominion Finance NBL semifinal next Sunday, with Aussie forward Oscar Forman straining a hamstring on the Boomersí tour of China.
Forman is due back in New Zealand shortly before Harbourís showdown with defending champions Easy LPG Bay Hawks, but his availability must now be in doubt. He is not expected to take the court again on tour.
Forman was already one of several team members, including coach Brian Goorjian, affected by a virus for Australiaís latest outing against Italy, won 75-54.
Harbour coach John Dorge is still awaiting word on how serious the injury is. Forman has averaged 14.9 points (55.6% FG, 46.1% 3pt), 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for the Heat this season and is a leading candidate for Outstanding Forward in NBL awards voting.
Harbour played their final two regular season games without him, beating Century City Wellington Saints, but losing to U Park It Waikato Pistons.
If Forman was not able to play next weekend, Harbour and the Hawks would enter the semifinal evenly matched. The champs will be without captain Paora Winitana, who does not play on Sunday for religious reasons.
