Goldrush face uphill battle

Otago Oceana Goldrush are back on home turf and will begin their Women’s Basketball Championship defence against the team they supplanted – previous titleholders Harbour Breeze.
After a lacklustre qualifying campaign, the Rush only scraped into the Championship group with victory over Nelson Sparks in their preliminary game last month.
Their task doesn’t get any easier as they line up for the finals at their Edgar Centre headquarters next week. They’ve drawn predecessors Harbour and the 2012 WBC’s top team so far – Hutt Valley Flyers – in their championship section.
On the other side of the draw, Nelson – last year’s runners-up – must get past Taranaki Trojans and upstarts Waitakere West Auckland Rangers.
