Waikato Titans coach Jeff Green has been suspended a game and fined $500 by the Conference Basketball League for abusing a referee after his team were beaten by Western Bay Suns last Saturday.
The complaint, supported by two witnesses, referred to a breach of the CBL Code of Conduct and alleged Green had brought the sport into disrepute with his comments as the game ended.
His suspension allows Green inside the stadium, but not on the Titans bench for their next outing – away to Whakarewarewa Geysers on Saturday. He also has 10 days to pay the fine or the suspension will stand until it is fully paid.
ìOver the past few years, Iíve tried to tone down my attitude and behaviour, so Iím very disappointed with myself,î commented Green, when informed of the judicial committeeís decision.
The Titans have already secured a spot in the CBL finals (August 23-25) and an opportunity to defend the title they won last year, but they are currently locked in a tussle with the Suns at the head of the central conference standings.
