NZ Tall Fern Charmian Purcell (Photosport)

NZ Tall Fern Charmian Purcell recorded a near “triple double” to guide Curves Harbour Breeze to a convincing 96-60 win over Auckland in the Women’s Basketball League northern conference.

Purcell led all scorers with 28 points (13/20 FG, 2/2 FT), adding 15 rebounds, eight steals, three assists and a block while playing the entire 40 minutes.

Harbour broke the game open with a 20-12 second quarter and were enver challenged again. They forced Auckland into 29 turnovers and held them to 35% FG, while converting 50% themselves.

The result was a measure of revenge for Harbour, who lost to Auckland in the 2006 WCBL national final.

Point guard Noni Wharemate had 20 points (6/11 FG, 8/11 FT) for the Breeze, while fellow international Lisa Wallbutton was Auckland’s best with 22 points/10 rebounds.
