Hamilton GHS has sounded an ominous warning at the NZ Secondary Schools Championships in Nelson, racing to an 4-0 record in Pool Two of the Girls “AA” draw.

See updated draw and results here.

But it’s not so much  their unbeaten run – five other teams in their competition have still to taste defeat – but the manner in which they’ve achieved it.

In three of their four outings, they’ve topped the century of points, with an average scoreline of 103-29. To date, they’ve been the most impressive of any team at the tournament, although their run will be tested on Wednesday afternoon, when they meet their pool’s other unbeaten outfit – Mt Albert Grammar.

In one of the final results through on Tuesday night, top seeds New Plymouth GHS suffered their first defeat, 65-74 at the hands of Westlake GHS (4-0).

The Boys “AA” contest is unfolding as anticipated, with defending champions Rosmini College and challengers Westlake BHS also unblemished through the opening two days’ play.

Westlake have been almost impressive as Hamilton Girls, averaging 103 points in their four outings. Their last pool fixture will see them face the Jeff Green-coached Fraser HS, who are 3-1 after their shock loss to Burnside on Day One.

Rosmini will meet New Plymouth BHS for the top spot in Pool Two, while Pool Three is emerging as the proverbial “pool of death”, with no unbeaten teams remaining and two rounds still to play.

In Boys “A” play, Te Aroha College (3-0) and Nga Taiatea Wharekura (2-0) have yet to lose, while Te Aroha and Mana College are both 2-0 in the girls.
