Tall Fern and Washington centre Jess McCormack

Tall Fern centre Jess McCormack is a doubtful starter when her University of Washington team travel to Oregon for a US college road double header this weekend.

McCormack is scheduled to face international team-mate Micaela Cocks at University of Oregon on Saturday, but left the Huskies’ 60-45 win over University of Southern California this week with concussion.

She had 12 points (5/10 FG, 2/2 FT), a rebound and a steal in 22 minutes on court as Washington improved to 7-10 for the season, 2-3 in the Pac-10 Conference.

Meanwhile, former Junior Tall Black Corey Webster came off the bench to spark Lambuth University’s 90-84 road win over Trevecca Nazarene University.

Webster led the Eagles with 21 points (6/11 FG, 3/7 3pt, 6/6 FT), six rebounds and an assist in 27 minutes, helping inflict Trevecca’s first TranSouth Conference loss. Lambuth, now riding a seven-game winning streak, improved to 13-1 for the season and 5-0 in conference play.

For the Lambuth women, Canterbury centre Donna Lavea recorded a “double double” in a 66-78 loss to Trevecca. Lavea had 14 points (7/14 FG), 11 rebounds, four blocks and a steal in 20 minutes as the defending NAIA champions lost their third in a row, falling to 9-7 for the season and 1-3 in the conference.

Houghton College wasted a career night from Emerging Tall Black Mada Abdelhamid, losing 46-76 to Daemen College despite his 27 points. He shot 13/17 FG, 1/3 FT, adding seven rebounds, an assist and a steal, but also committing eight of the Highlanders’ 32 turnovers.

They are now 5-8 for the season.

“Mada was awesome,” said Houghton coach Brad Zarges. “There’s no other word for it … he was unstoppable.”

At Oregon Tech, Harbour guard Ryan Beesley contributed a career-high 17 points, including 6/10 FG, 3/3 3pt as the Hustlin’ Owls beat Northwest Christian 90-70, extending their record to 16-2 for the season and 7-1 in the NAIA’s Cascade Conference.

In Switzerland, former Tall Black Brendon Polyblank had 18 points as BBC Monthey defeated bottom-of-the-table Lausanne Basket 75-70 in the Ligue Nationale de Basket. Polyblank shot 6/13 FG, 3/6 3pt, 3/3 FT, grabbing three rebounds and an assist in 33 minutes as his team improved to 8-5 for the season.
