Age-group athletes had their chance to compete for selection to next year’s national junior teams at Counties-Manukau over the weekend.

Newly appointed coaches and assistants for the men and women conducted the selection camp, as they prepare for world championship qualifying (U17) and Australian state championships (U18 & U20).

It was also a chance for the new staff to get acquainted, with several head coaches making their debut at this level.

Basketball is lucky to have former Tall Blacks Pero Cameron, Paul Henare, Judd Flavell and Mike Fitchett available for coaching roles for next year, along with an experienced line-up of assistants. Most have guided national teams previously.

It’s a great combination of international playing experience, successful NBL coaching records and dedicated service in the player development programme.
