NZ Tall Fern guard Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe led all scorers with 30 points, but couldnít spark Frankston Lady Blues to victory over Albury Wodonga Lady Bandits, falling 69-80 in the South East Australia Basketball League.
McMeeken-Ruscoe shot 11/30 FG, 4/11 3pt, 4/5 FT, adding four rebounds, a steal and an assist while playing the entire 40 minutes. The result did nothing to ease Frankstonís struggles at the bottom of the league table, slipping to 3-19 for the season.
Fellow Kiwi Lisa Pardon enjoyed more success with Launceston Tornadoes, who beat Southern Districts Spartans 96-91. Pardon had 15 points (5/12 FG, 3/4 3pt, 2/2 FT), eight assists, three rebounds and two steals as the Tornadoes improved to 9-13.
Former Junior Tall Fern Shannon Proffit had a ìdouble doubleî to help Maroochydore Clippers topple Northside Wizards 84-66 in the Queensland Australia Basketball League. Proffit had 11 points (5/12 FG, 1/1 3pt), 14 rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocks as the Clips rode a seven-game winning streak to 9-2 for the season.
For the Maroochydore men, Kiwi Zane Meehl had a low-scoring day, but still came up with a ìdouble doubleî in a 115-126 loss to Northside. Meehl had 11 points (4/26 FG, 1/14 3pt, 2/4 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block, while former Avondale College schoolmate Tyrone Davey also had 10 points (4/20 FG, 1/11 3pt, 1/2 FT) for the Clips.
Maroochydore slipped to 6-5 for the season as a four-game winning streak ended.
Former Junior Tall Black Lance Baker had 12 points (4/8 FG, 2/4 3pt, 2/2 FT), two rebounds, two steals and an assist as Gold Coast Goannas suffered an 85-114 loss to Cairns Marlins, but former BBNZ High Performance head coach Leonard King guided Mackay Meteors to 4-6 for the season with a 115-110 win over Brisbane Capitals.
Tall Fern Angela Marino had 15 points to help Sturt Sabres defeat cellar dwellers Woodville Warriors 77-42 in the Central Australia Basketball League. She shot 5/14 FG, 4/8 3pt, 1/2 FT, adding six assists, five steals and a rebound as Sturt (13-1) remained atop the table.
