Kiwi Gemma Kerr and her Kilsyth Cobras unleashed their venom in round 18 of the South East Australia Basketball League (SEABL).
Kerr made significant contributions as the Cobras went 3-0 last week, improving to 14-8, currently holding down the fourth and last playoff spot with two rounds remaining in the regular season.
The younger sister of Tall Ferns captain Aneka Kerr posted five points (2/11 FG, 1/6 3pt), five rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes in a 61-55 win over the Bendigo Lady Braves on Wednesday.
She followed it with 11 points (4/8 FG, 2/4 3pt, 1/1 FT), four rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes in a 98-67 win over former Tall Fern Julie Ofsoski and the Frankston Lady Blues on Saturday, and 13 points (5/12 FG, 2/4 3pt, 1/2 FT), four rebounds, four steals and an assist in 23 minutes of a 90-60 victory over Knox Raiders on Sunday.
Ofsoski averaged 25 points per game in two losses for the struggling Lady Blues. She had 22 points (8/16 FG, 6/12 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and a block in 28 minutes against Kilsyth and 28 points (11/17 FG, 6/9 FT), seven rebounds and a block in 34 minutes in an 82-74 loss to the Nunawading Spectres.
Three New Zealanders featured in extended their teams’ winning streaks in round 12 of the Queensland Australia Basketball League (QABL).
Rowan Gray had 10 points (4/9 FG, 0/2 FT), seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 30 minutes, while Callum Baynes put up six points (2/6 FG, 0/1 3pt, 2/3 FT) and five rebounds in 13 minutes as the defending ABA champion Cairns Marlins defeated the Caboolture Suns 114-100 for their sixth straight win.
Otago Nuggets guard Shaun Tilby posted eight points (2/10 FG, 0/3 3pt, 4/6 FT), five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 40 minutes of the Gold Coast Goannas fourth straight victory, a 117-102 result over the Logan Thunder.
Sticking with Queensland, Shannon Proffit recorded eight points (3/9 FG, 0/1 3pt, 2/3 FT), 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals in 33 minutes of the Maroochydore Lady Clippers 86-53 win over the Brisbane Capitals.
In the Waratah League in New South Wales, Kiwi Adrianne Gilbert and the Bankstown Bruins remained undefeated after 11 games, with a 78-57 win over the Newcastle Hunters in round 16. Gilbert had 10 points (3/7 FG, 4/6 FT), three rebounds and six assists in 33 minutes.
On the left coast, former Tall Fern Jess Spinner managed four points (0/3 FG, 0/2 3pt, 4/4 FT), three rebounds, an assist and block in 19 minutes in the Wanneroo Wolves 55-49 loss to the Willetton Tigers in round 15 of the West Australia State Basketball League (SBL).
