American Jenny Lingor compiled a ìdouble doubleî to help Curves Harbour Breeze sweep aside Gameface Canterbury Wildcats for the Womenís National Basketball Invitational title with a 90-58 win at Northcote AUT.
Lingor had 23 points (7/13 FG, 6/9 3pt, 3/4 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals to push her claims for an import spot on the Christchurch Sierns roster to contest their debut season in the defencejobs Australian WNBL next summer.
After taking the opening encounter of the two-game series by 25 points, the Breeze were always in control of this one, but really stamped their authority with a 26-11 third quarter.
Waikato centre Jo Kailahi, recruited for this invitational match-up, had 14 points (7/8 FG) for Harbour, while Tall Fern point guard Noni Wharemate contributed 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds to be named Most Valuable Player of the series.
Otago forward Toni Edmondson was again the Wildcatsí standout performer as the only player to score in double figures – 10 points (4/9 FG, 2/7 3pt), seven rebounds and two steals.
The result gives Harbour undisputed bragging rights, having already won the Womenís Basketball League title last month.
