Marino Helps Sabres Rattle

Before joining the Tall Ferns camp later this week, starting point guard Angela Marino helped her Adelaide-based team to the league lead in South Australia.
Marino had 17 points (8/20 FG, 1/4 3pt, 0/2 FT), five assists, three rebounds and a steal in 37 minutes of the Sturt Sabres 80-71 win over the Norwood Flames in round 15 of the Central ABL.
It was the Sabres fourth straight win, improving them to 11-4, and taking over the competition lead.
In other Australia Basketball Association (ABA) leagues, Adrianne Gilbert and Shannon Proffit produced top games in New South Wales and Queensland.
Gilbert posted 13 points (5/7 FG, 1/1 3pt, 2/4 FT), seven assists, three steals and two rebounds in 33 minutes of her Bankstown Bruins 88-56 win over the Canberra Nationals in round 15 of the Waratah League, extending the Bruins undefeated start to the season to 10 games.
Proffit posted a double-double with 12 points (3/7 FG, 1/2 3pt, 5/6 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals in 40 minutes as her Maroochydore Clippers defeated the Bundaberg Bears 66-54 in round 11 of the Queensland Australia Basketball League (QABL), improving to 8-3.
Elsewhere in Queensland, Otago Nuggets guard Shaun Tilby had 13 points (5/6 FG, 2/2 3pt, 1/3 FT), three steals, a rebound and an assists in 25 minutes for his new club, the Gold Coast Goannas, as they rolled the Ipswich Force 108-86 for their third straight win in round 11.
In Mackay, former Tall Black Miles Pearce produced a monster 22 points (11/19 FG, 0/1 3pt, 0/3 FT), 20 rebounds and three assists in 41 minutes and Emerging Tall Black Zane Meehl had six points (3/11 FG, 0/6 3pt), three rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes as the Leonard King-coached Meteors fell to their fourth straight loss, 92-74 to the South West Metro Pirates.
Younger brother Zeke Meehl racked up 10 points (2/13 FG, 2/8 3pt, 4/4 FT), seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in 36 minutes but his Maroochydore Clippers fell to their 11th straight defeat, 127-100 to the Bundaberg Bulls, who got a season-high 51 points from former Nuggets import Jay Anderson.
Both Kiwis in the South East Australia Basketball League (SEABL) suffered losses at the hands of the Ballarat Lday Miners in round 17 last weekend.
Gemma Kerr had eight points (2/9 FG, 1/6 3pt, 3/4 FT), four rebounds, three assists and four steals in 22 minutes as her Kilsyth Cobras went down 96-77, while former Tall Fern Julie Ofsoski managed five points (1/9 FG, 3/4 FT), 10 rebounds and an assists in 25 minutes of the Frankston Lady Blues 69-59 loss.
