Tall Fern Angela Marino provided the winning basket as Australian Defence Force WNBL leaders Adelaide Lightning came from behind to edge Townsville Fire 68-67 on the road.
The Kiwi-born point guard shot faultlessly, contributing 11 points (3/3 FG, 1/1 3pt, 4/4 FT), a rebound and an assist in her 16 minutes off the bench to help the Lightning rally from six behind entering the final quarter.
She also had eight points (1/3 FG, 6/8 FT), two assists and a rebound as Adelaide returned home to beat Australian Institute of Sport 94-77 and improve their record to 15-3 for the season.
Tall Fern centre Jess McCormack was well contained by the University of California-Los Angeles in a 57-59 loss in US college play.
McCormack had six points (3/4 FG), four rebounds and a block as the Huskies fell to 6-10 for the season, 1-3 in Pac-10 games.
Canterbury centre Donna Lavea had 16 points as Lambuth University fell 74-89 to top-ranked NAIA rivals Union University, falling to 9-6 for the season and 1-3 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference.
Rotorua centre Te Awhina Aranui grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds, but could not prevent Cascade College falling 62-73 to Concordia.
Aranui added 13 points (5/11 FG, 3/5 FT), three steals, two blocks and an assist in 38 minutes. The T-Birds conceded 14-1 run that allowed their opponents to pull away over the final stages and are now 10-8 for the season.
Kiwi Monique Ross had 14 points for University of Bridgeport in an 82-57 win over New York Tech. The Purple Knights scored the first 10 points of the contest, improving to 6-8 for the season and 3-4 in the East Coast Conference.
Tall Fern Aroha Jennings had 14 points (4/7 FG, 6/6 FT), three rebounds, three steals and an assist as University of Memphis toppled defending Conference USA champions University of East Carolina 69-50.
The Tigers improved to 4-12 for the season and 1-2 in conference play.
