NEWS FLASH: TE TAI TOKERAU WITHDRAWS FROM WBC – REDRAW POSTED SOON
Waitakere West Auckland Rangers, Rotorua Lady Vols and Te Tai Tokerau Phoenix will all make their Women’s Basketball Championship debuts when the 2012 competition tips off in Nelson later this month.
The fourth edition of the championship will see the field expanded from 10 teams to 12 this year, making room for the newcomers.
Gone is the NZ Academy, a roster traditionally made up of young players that had missed selection for other teams. With the expansion, those players have now been assimilated into association line-ups.
Rotorua will be the first of the new teams on court when the first round begins on June 22, facing Canterbury Wildcats.
Te Tai Tokerau find themselves up against defending champions Oceana Goldrush, while Waitakere West Auckland Rangers will take on Waikato Wizards on Day One.
Each team play six games over the three-day round, with the second round scheduled for Lower Hutt on July 20-22.
