BBNZ U21 National Championships MVPs Houston O'Riley (West Auckland) and Natasha Hall (Harbour)

West Auckland’s Houston O’Riley and Harbour’s Natasha Hall both won championships and earned MVP honours at BBNZ U21 National Championships in Tauranga on Saturday.

O’Riley had nine points in the final as West Auckland defeated defending men’s champions Porirua 79-67, while Hall scored a game-high 24 points to push Harbour to an 83-64 win over Porirua in the women’s final.

West Auckland captain Zach Makavilitogia, who had 20 points in the final, and guard Paaka Hakaraia were also named to the tournament team, which also featured Junior Tall Blacks Brooke Ruscoe (Porirua), Rob Loe (Harbour) and Tom Rowe (Waitakere City/Otago).

Hall was joined by Harbour team-mates Milika Nathan and Freda Riwai, who had 14 points in the final, in the women’s tournament team. Emerging Tall Ferns (U21) squad members Chevannah Paalvast (Waitakere City/New Plymouth), Miriam Slatter (Waikato) and Jordan Hunter (Counties Manukau) also earned tournament team selection.
