NZ Football Ferns coach John Herdman and former national badminton coach Graeme Robson are among the ìoutsideî experts confirmed for the 2007 BBNZ Labour Weekend Coaches Workshop on the North Shore, October 20-22.
ìIn the past, all speakers have been basketball focused,î says Basketball New Zealand coach and player manager Ollie Dudfield.
ìThis year, we will expand the programme to integrate speakers from outside basketball in an effort to challenge and expand our coaching mindset.î
Herdman, the New Zealand Football coach development manager, is currently guiding the national womenís team through the FIFA World Cup in China and last year led the NZ U20 team to their world tournament. Born in England, he began his career as a youth coach with Sunderland AFC and moved to New Zealand in 2003.
Robson is a former international badminton player and was Badminton New Zealand national coach from 1995-2002. A former exercise physiologist, he has managed the North Island coach support programme at the New Zealand Academy of Sport since 2003.
The theme of this yearís Labour Weekend gathering will be ìDeveloping Players to Develop Teamsî and organizers hope to build on last yearís successful clinic, attended by 120 coaches at AUTís Akoranga Drive campus.
The workshop will cater to three levels of coaching - elite, development and participation - over the broad subjects of tactics & fundamentals, coaching practice and coach & athlete development.
