Tall Fern Lisa Pardon led her Bendigo Spirit in scoring, but had to concede bragging rights to international team-mate Angela Marino as Adelaide Lightning prevailed 92-74 in their Australian Defence Force WNBL clash.

Bouncing back from a scoreless performance in Bendigo’s 88-79 win over Perth the previous day, Pardon shot 6/10 FG, 5/6 3pt for 17 points, adding a rebound in her 21 minutes. Marino logged 20 minutes for eight points (2/5 FG, 2/2 3pt, 2/2 FT), five assists and four rebounds.

Victory carried Adelaide in the top of the table with a 7-3 record, while the Spirit (6-4) fell out of the top four.

In US college action, former Junior Tall Fern Kim Barnes scored a career-high 16 points to lead UC Irvine to a 78-44 victory over Sacramento State University.

The Counties Manukau forward shot 6/7 FG, 4/4 FT, adding three rebounds, a block and a steal in 20 minutes. She is still faultless from the charity stripe, converting 10/10 in the regular season and 10/10 in the Anteaters’ only pre-season outing.

Tall Fern Jess McCormack played no part in the University of Washington’s tournament win at the Husky Classic, where they beat Arkansas State University 69-59 in the final.

McCormack sat out the event with a high ankle sprain, watching the Huskies improve to 3-4 for the season. She has a week to recover before her Kiwi showdown with former junior international team-mate Barnes on December 2.

At Lambuth University, Canterbury centre Donna Lavea scored almost as many points as opponents Allen College at the Union University Thanksgiving Classic.

The Lady Eagles overwhelmed Allen 90-35 and improved to 4-4 for the season, with Lavea contributing a career-high 31 points.

Kiwi point guard Amanda Harris picked off nine steals as College of the Siskiyous recorded their first loss of the season, 65-70 to Sierra.

Harris added four points (1/3 FG, 2/6 FT), five assists and three rebounds.

Harbour guard Kezia Kelly led Washington State University in scoring with seven points (2/5 FG, 1/2 3pt, 2/6 FT), three assists and one rebound in 25 minutes, but the Cougars were smashed 66-37 by University of Alabama.

Tall Fern guard Micaela Cocks led the University of Oregon with 11 points, but could not inspire them to victory over University of New Mexico in the final of the Holiday Inn & Suites Express Albuquerque Midtown Tournament.

New Mexico prevailed 65-46 despite Cocks’ 4/9 FG, 3/6 3pt shooting and five rebounds in 24 minutes.

Tall Fern Aroha Jennings had 10 points (3/5 FG, 4/4 FT), three rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes as University of Memphis lost 77-82 to Louisianna Tech in the final of the Lady Tiger Classic tournament.
