Former Tall Black Brendon Polyblank had a “double double” to help BBC Monthey to a 79-63 win over Vevey Riviera Basket in the Swiss Ligue Nationale de Basket.
In his third game since rejoining the club this month, Polyblank compiled 15 points (6/13 FG, 2/6 3pt, 1/2 FT), six assists and three steals in 34 minutes.
Monthey ran up a 12-point advantage by the end of the opening period and were never challenged as they improved to 7-4 for the season.
In the Australian Hummer NBL Championship, Canterbury point guard Jeremy Kench led the Wollongong Hawks with five assists in their 92-99 loss to league leaders Sydney Kings.
Kench also had two points (1/6 FG) and two steals in 26 minutes off the bench as the Hawks fell to 4-12 for the season.
Tall Black forward Dillon Boucher continued to make an impact as a member of the Brisbane starting five, contributing two points (1/3 FG), nine rebounds, two steals and a block in 24 minutes as the defending champions romped over the Harvey Norman NZ Breakers 125-93.
The Bullets are now 12-5 for the season in third place on the table.
In US college play, Emerging Tall Black forward Mada Abdelhamid had a “double double”, but couldn’t prevent Houghton College falling 52-67 to Worcester State College.
Abdelhamid had 14 points/11 rebounds as the Highlanders fell to 4-3 for the season.
Canterbury guard Adrian Taylor was promoted to the Saginaw Valley State University starting line-up and responded with 11 points in their 58-55 win over Wayne State.
Taylor logged 40 minutes, shooting 4/5 FG, 3/4 3pt with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. The Cardinals are now 4-4 for the season.
Tall Black prospect Jeremiah Trueman played a cameo role as University of Alaska-Anchorage defeated Brigham Young University-Hawaii 95-90 in double overtime on the road.
Trueman had eight points (4/5 FG) and an assist in 13 minutes before fouling out during the first period of extra time. The Seawolves are now 5-3 for the season.
Emerging Tall Black Christopher Reay had nine points (4/6 FG, 1/3 FT), seven rebounds, a block and an assist in 36 minutes to help Midwestern State University defeat Incarnate Word 81-75 and improve their record to 4-4.
In Iceland, coach Jeff Green guided Hottur to a much-needed win in the D1 second division – 91-66 over Valur – with Kiwi imports Everard Bartlett and Ben Hill both starring.
Bartlett led all scorers with 31 points (12/19 FG, 3/7 3pt, 4/4 FT), while Hill compled a “double double” of 27 points (10/16 FG, 1/5 3pt, 6/6 FT) and 14 rebounds.
Hottur are now 4-5 for the season, in fourth place on the competition table.
