Brendon Polyblank has resumed training after eight frustrating months on the sidelines and is eyeing a return to the National Basketball League.
Polyblank hasn’t played since the Wellington Saints’ semifinal loss to Auckland last July because of a chronic foot injury that has plagued him for the past two years.
But after successful surgery last December the 2004 Tall Black forward could be back in a Saints singlet this season after testing his foot in practice last week.
“I would like to, but right now the main thing is to get in shape and see where I go from there,” Polyblank said after watching his teammates lose to the Bay Hawks on Saturday.
“The foot feels good. It’s still a little stiff because it’s not used to getting pounded on the court, but I think it’s coming right.
“I trained twice with the Saints this week without any problems, and I had a game last weekend in the intercity tournament for NZIS.”
Polyblank, who has played 88 games for the Saints, wasn’t putting a date on his return, but ruled out this Sunday’s crunch match against the Harbour Heat in Wellington.
“I think that’d be a bit too soon, but maybe two weeks if they want me, we’ll see.”
