Wellington guard Dion Prewster has guided the NZ Junior Tall Blacks to the quarterfinals of the Pioneer Summer Shootout in Nevada with a 96-45 win over Coronado.

Prewster had 17 points as the Kiwis blew their opposition away 50-18 in the second half for their fourth win as they prepare for The Main Event in Las Vegas next week.

ìThis was an easy win over easy opponents with a few big dunks,î observed coach Kenny McFadden. ìIt was a challenge for the big men to guard smaller and quicker players.î

New Zealand had earlier survived a couple of close shaves to emerge unbeaten from their pool.

They needed overtime to edge Faith Lutheran 64-58 after their opponents found the mark with a buzzer beater prayer from midcourt, then toppled Del Sol 55-53 after missing several free throws in the second half.

The Junior Tall Blacks open their account at The Main Event against Las Vegas Toros on Sunday.
