Saints Hold Off Hawks

Exodus Saints remain unbeaten at home beating the 0800 Easy LPG Bay Hawks 103-91.
League leading scorer Eric Devendorf had a game high 36 while his former alumni at Syracuse University Josh Pace top scored for the Hawks with 30.
Lindsay Tait continued his form with assists dishing 7 and scoring 18. Saints bigs Casey Frank and Nick Horvath worked well together scoring 18 and 14 respectively.
Paul Henare returned from an ankle injury to play his first game for the Hawks in 2010 playing 20 minutes with 4 points and 3 assists.
The first quarter was all Saints winning 27-11, the visitors struggling offensively shooting 2/10 from the field.
In the second the Saints quickly extended their lead to 23, Everard Bartlett keeping his side in the game with a long bomb to end the half only down 16. Bartlett scored eight in the quarter and sixteen for the game.
Hawks offense picked up in the third scoring 28 points from eight different players cutting the lead to 12 heading into the final quarter.
The final quarter looked like the Hawks would come back when Ben Hill (12 points) hit a three to cut the lead to seven. A Devendorf three on the buzzer put the lead back out 10. Hawks would not get to within single digits from there on.
Pace dominated the fourth scoring 17, but was matched by Devendorf who scored 15 of the Saints 29 points. Saints won the battle of the board outrebounding the Hawks 39-28. Jon Rogers the only Hawks to get near 10 rebounds grabbing 9 to go with his 13 points.
Hawks are now 7 wins and 6 losses, but have shown plenty of depth with 9 players scoring in tonights game.
Saints now move to second with a 9-3 record, but could move back to third if the Fico Finance Nelson Giants beat the Taranaki Mountain Airs on Saturday.
