The Christchurch Sirens have ended their inaugural season in the Women’s National Basketball League on a low with a 60-68 loss away to Perth.
The Sirens led 38-34 at halftime but with just eight players on their roster due to injuries and unavailability, couldn’t sustain their offence, scoring only 22 points in the second half.
They were just two points down entering the final three minutes but Perth - who finished the season in last place - kept their nerve.
Tonight’s result was at least an improvement on the Sirens’ massive 58-107 loss to table-toppers Adelaide on Friday.
Their leading scorer was Lisa Wallbutton with 13 while Antonia Edmondson slotted 12.
The Sirens finished eighth in the 10-team competition but suffered for failing to win any of their 12 games in Australia. They ended with a 9-3 record at home.
After losing their first seven games of the season, the Sirens found their feet at home which could prove encouraging looking ahead to next season.
