Basketball Otago are calling for applications for the positions of Nuggets head coach and menís academy director.

The positions can be combined if applicants are capable and interested in applying for both positions.

The Nuggets head coach appointment will be for period of January 7 2008 to July 4 2008.

The menís academy director appointment will be for the Period 1 November 1 2007 to October 31 2008.

Basketball Otago is seeking applications from suitably qualified coaches with:

ï Experience working in an elite competition and environment.

ï Proven experience in player recruitment.

ï Proven experience in planning and implementing a high performance program and the ability to work with other personnel in the high performance group.

The successful coach/es will be working in conjunction with the head coach of the womenís programme.

Experience working in a professional or semi professional competition is strongly desirable, but not essential.

Remuneration:
Salary packages for both positions will be dependant on the successful applicant/s level of experience and ability. A work vehicle, accommodation assistance and travel expenses are provided for the Nuggets head coach.

Basketball Otago Menís Academy Director

Reports to: the CEO Basketball Otago.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):

  • Design a season plan for the Academy
  • Be the Management team leader.
  • Put together the Management team (To be ratified by the CEO) of head coach, assistant coaches, manager, fitness coach and physio.
  • Two weeks after the conclusion of the Academy for the season submit a report of the season to the CEO which will include player evaluations.
  • The running of the Basketball Otago Academy
  • The running of various coaching clinics/sessions.
  • Meeting performance measures as detailed below.
  • Fill one of the assistant coach positions for the Nuggets NBL side.
  • Arrange at least 12 games per season for the academy.
  • Coach the academy team in at least 12 games per season.

Performance Measures Academy

1. Assist in the recruitment of suitable candidates for the academy- Target being 15 new male athletes for 2008 year.

2. Manage the day to day running of the menís academy.

3. Ensure minimum contact hours per academy member are delivered.

4. Ensure quality of on court coaching sessions.

5. Complete all written requirement relating to the Academy.

6. Actively promote the academy throughout New Zealand basketball community.

7. Two weeks after the conclusion of the academy for the season submit a report of the season to the CEO, which will include individual player evaluations.

8. Ensure that good relationships and communication lines are maintained with the sports Institute, and other stakeholders.

9. Maintain communication with sponsors as and when required by sponsorship agreements.

10. Make contact with media at least once a week throughout season.

Basketball Otago Nuggets Head Coach

Reports to: the franchise general manager - Basketball Otago.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):

  • Design a season plan to prepare the team for the National League.
  • Be the Nuggets Management team leader.
  • Put together the management team (To be ratified by the GM) of head coach, assistant coaches, manager, fitness coach and physio.
  • Run trials in accordance with Basketball Otago Representative Trial procedure.
  • Arrange and coach the team in a minimum of 3 games in the 6 weeks leading up to the national league.
  • Coach the team in the NZ National Basketball League (all games and practices).
  • Two weeks after the conclusion of the team’s games for the season submit a report of the season to the CEO which will include player evaluations.
  • The running of various coaching clinics/sessions.
  • Meeting performance measures as detailed below.
  • Select and recruit players as required.
  • Allocate roles and responsibilities to all management team.
  • Ensure player presentation and attitude is up to the expected standard both on and off the court.

  • Ensure players attend individual and group training and promotional sessions
  • Developing team culture and work ethic.

Performance Measures NBL
1. At least three pre season games played per season

2. Visit at least five high schools for coaching sessions per season

3. Visit at least five intermediate schools for coaching sessions per season

4. Visit at least five primary schools for coaching sessions per season

5. Participate in the BBO Coaching/Development Programme which will include at least the following:

a. Run at least one coaching clinic in Dunedin per season

b. Run at least one coaching clinic in Central Otago per season

c. Run at least one coaching clinic in North Otago per season

d. Run at least one coaching clinic in South Otago per season

6. Make contact with media at least once a week throughout season.

7. Design & monitor individual training programs for all Franchise players.

8. At least 100 local ìIn Schoolî coaching visits are made by the team.

9. Players attend at least 90% of expected training and promotional sessions.
