Furnware, New Zealandís major supplier of classroom furniture, has enrolled as naming rights sponsor for secondary schools basketball this year.
Basketball New Zealandís school tournament programme tipped off this week with local premierships being contested around the country in both senior and junior age groups.
The top teams in senior premierships will qualify for next monthís national championships. This year, BBNZ has created a new division for schools with less than 600 co-ed students or 300 single sex.
Hastings-based Furnware was major sponsor of the 2006 NZ Tall Blacks at the FIBA World Championships and manufacture the Bodyfurn range of classroom furniture.
The company has established itself as a world leader by creating a workable system that matches desks and chairs to the heights of their users, and managing director Hamish Whyte sees basketball players as ideal ambassadors for his products.
ìTall kids, especially, know what itís like to sit in furniture thatís too small,î says Whyte. ìThey get crook backs, they are forever comfortable and itís tiring Ö shorter people have the same problem.
ìThese young sports people are great role models so weíre glad to support them. If they help spread the word that pain is no longer necessary, then theyíre also great allies.î
The Furnware NZ Secondary Schools Basketball Championships will take place September 24-29 at North Harbour (AA) and Christchurch (A).
