Former Townsville Crocs coach Ian Stacker

Former Townsville Crocs coach Ian Stacker has been confirmed as a guest presenter at the BBNZ Labour Weekend Coaches Workshop, October 20-22.

Over 25 years as a professional basketball coach, Stacker has compiled an impressive career at all levels of the game, beginning with Victoria state age group teams, a decade as an assistant in the NBL and the past nine as head coach.

He has twice been voted NBL Coach of the Year and took Townsville from competition easybeats to perennial contenders, guiding them to the 2001 grand final and the semifinals on three other occasions. Stacker has coached 285 NBL games for a 143-142 record, but sat out last season to develop the Ian Stacker All-Star Scouting Service.

On the international scene, he is best known for guiding Australia to victory at the 1997 FIBA World U23 Championships.

ìIan Stacker is not only one of Australian basketballís best coaches, he is one of its best judges and developers of young talent,î says former NBA centre Chris Anstey, a member of that world champion roster.

ìHe knows Australian basketball as well as anyone in the world, and his opinions are high regarded both within Australian and worldwide.î

Stackerís expertise fits perfectly in the ìDeveloping Players to Develop Teamî theme of this yearís Labour Weekend clinic at AUTís Akoranga Campus in Northcote.

The workshop will cater to three levels of coaching – elite, development and participation – over the broad subjects of tactics & fundamentals, coaching practice and coach & athlete development.

ìIn the past, all speakers have been basketball focused,î says BBNZ coach and player manager Ollie Dudfield.

ìThis year, we will expand the programme to integrate speakers from outside basketball in an effort to challenge and expand our coaching mindset.î
