While her international team-mates were touring China, NZ Tall Fern point guard Angela Marino was scoring up a storm for Sturt Sabres in the Central Australia Basketball League.
Marino, who missed the tour to study for law exams, took time out from her books to compile 28 points (8/17 FG, 2/6 3pt, 10/12 FT) in Sturtís 74-60 win over Forestville Eagles.
She added five rebounds and an assist while playing the entire 40 minutes.
The Eagles (12-1) remain well clear at the top of the competition table.
Elsewhere, former Junior Tall Fern Shannon Proffit recorded a ìdouble doubleî to help Maroochydore Clippers to an 81-60 win over Gladstone Power in the Queensland Australia Basketball League.
Proffit had 13 points (5/9 FG, 3/3 FT), 14 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in 36 minutes as the Clippers improved to 8-2 for the season, trailing only Townsville Flames (10-1) on the table.
Kiwi Zane Meehl had 27 points as the Maroochydore men continued their run through the league.
Coming off a pair of ìtriple doublesî in recent weeks, Meehl shot 9/27 FG, 2/12 3pt, 7/10 FT, adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 46 minutes. Former Avondale College schoolmate Tyrone Davey had nine points (4/11 FG, 1/3 FT) for the Clippers.
The pair also helped Maroochydore to a 131-95 win over Gladstone Power. Meehl had 32 points (11/34 FG, 4/15 3pt, 6/8 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and a steal, while Davey had 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and two assists.
The Clippers have now won four consecutive games and are 6-4 for the season.
Meanwhile, in the South East Australia Basketball League, Kiwi Gemma Kerr earned bragging rights over compatriot Lisa Pardon as Kilysth Lady Cobras overcame Launceston Tornadoes 92-76.
Kerr had 12 points (4/6 FG, 2/3 3pt, 2/4 FT), four assists, four rebounds and block and a steal in her 21 minutesí action for Kilsyth. Pardon managed 11 points (3/7 FG, 2/3 3pt, 3/4 FT), three assists and two rebounds for Launceston.
The Lady Cobras edged into the leagueís top four with a 12-7 record.
