One Wollongong IMB Hawks player that hasn’t been under the spotlight the last two months is promising New Zealand international guard Lindsay Tait.

Tait went down earlier this season with a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the 2007/08 NBL Hummer Championship.

After starting out the season in great form and providing that much needed spark off the bench, Tait proved to the league that he is a legitimate NBL player. His quickness, exceptional court vision and great shooting touch made him a danger for any challenger ahead of him.

Tait had surgery in early December to repair the dislocated shoulder that had cut short his 2007/08 season and is now well into the recovery stages of the injury.

“The first five weeks after the surgery I rested quite a bit, I just had to let it heal and for all the bits inside my shoulder to get back together,” Tait said.

“Right now I’m in the second phase after the operation, focusing now on getting movement back and strengthening my shoulder.”

“I’ll be seeing the surgeon again at the end of January for an evaluation then will keep working hard to improve the overall movement and strength of the shoulder,” he added.

“Everything is going well with the recovery, I’m right on track with it all and my sole focus is to have the shoulder back at 100% for next season with the IMB Hawks.”

Tait has remained with the team despite the season-ending injury, still attending all training sessions with the team and giving the team that much needed support.

With majority of players looking at other playing opportunities over the NBL off-season, Tait’s main priorities will be making sure his shoulder is fully healed and ready to go for next season.

“I’m still looking at my options for this off-season, but my first priority is to get my shoulder right for the 2008/09 NBL season,” Tai said. “It’d be great to be ready for the Olympic qualifying rounds this June for New Zealand, but I won’t be pushing for an early return.”

After a season with injuries and import problems, the IMB Hawks are a slim but no chance of making the NBL playoffs this season. But a number of positives have come out of the group this season which is a promising sign for the future of the on court success of the IMB Hawks.”

Kavossy (Franklin) has said it before and so has my other team mates. We have a good core of talent on this team and a great coaching staff and there is no doubt in my mind that we are a playoff team and we can be there next season,” Tait said.

“As long as we all stay healthy and we can pick up a hard working import, I know we will be able to keep up with the likes of the Kings, Tigers and Bullets.”

“As a group this year we’ve all stuck together and worked through injuries and off court dramas to try and play our best possible basketball, I’m really looking forward to being healthy next year and contributing on court and making sure this team is successful next season,” he added.
