NZ Tall Black Lindsay Tait (Photosport)

NZ Tall Black point guard Lindsay Tait came off the bench to average 15 points a game for Wollongong Hawks as they dropped both legs of a double header weekend to open their Australian Hummer Championship NBL.

Returning to the league after spending last season in Switzerland, Tait had 14 points (7/10 FG), four assists and two rebounds in 33 minutes of a 101-108 loss to Adelaide 36ers on Friday.

The following night, he amassed 16 points (5/9 FG, 2/4 3pt, 4/4 FT), five assists and three rebounds in 29 minutes of an 88-100 loss to Melbourne Tigers.

Fellow Kiwi Jeremy Kench enjoyed only a few seconds of play in both games, hitting 2/2 FT for his two points against Melbourne.

Other performances over opening weekend included Ö

ï Wellington Saints import and potential Tall Black Nick Horvath had 13 points (4/9 FG, 5/6 FT), six rebounds and an assist before fouling out after just 18 minutes in South Dragonsí 106-116 home lose to West Sydney Razorbacks. Waikato Pistons point guard Luke Martin had 16 points (7/8 FG, 1/2 3pt, 1/4 FT), four assists, a rebound and a steal before he also fouled out after 16 minutes.

ï Former Tall Black Mike Homik clocked 17 scoreless minutes as the Perth Wildcats overran Singapore Slingers 112-80, grabbing four rebounds and passing off for two assists.

ï Tall Black Casey Frank registered a ìdouble doubleî of 11 points/10 rebounds off the bench as the Gold Coast Blaze fell to their second defeat of opening weekend, 79-88 to Sydney Kings. NZ captain Pero Cameron had no points (0/2 FG), but grabbed seven rebounds and a steal in 16 minutes. Waikato Pistons import Jason Crowe also had 11 points (4/12 FG, 3/9 3pt), eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, but committed eight turnovers for the Blaze.
