Former Rookie of the Year Shaun Tilby has re-signed with the Cartridge World Otago Nuggtets for the 2008 Dominion Finance NBL.
The Nuggets’ top shooting guard, named top newcomer in 2006, will rejoin team-mates Darryl Jones and Cowan Finch from this year’s roster, along with new signings Brent Charleton and Nat Connell from the Harbour Heat.
“We are very happy with Shaun’s decision to return, says Nuggets general manar Warrick Diack.
“He can handle the ball well and shoot, which makes him a valuable combo guard option for us.
Diack said it was encouraging that starting players from last year were excited about returning.
“We did have a few people doubting the return of some of our promising players from last year, but hopefully Shaun’s re-signing will quell the doubters a little.
“Former Nuggets Nate Trousdell, Steve Robinson, Stu Carruthers, Jason Grieg, Hamish Brimble and Chris Hepburn have indicated their interest to return as well. These guys are under no illusion that positions will have to be earned this year.
“The pieces are certainly falling into place for us.”
Tilby and Connell provide the Nuggets with good depth in the guard positions.
“We have moved in this direction on purpose,” says Diack. “We need these two guys to help develop our up-and-coming point guards who are the key to our future success.”
Off the court, Basketball Otago and the Nuggets are have re-signed of The Radio Network and ZM as sponsors.
“If you look at the progress we’ve made over the past 18 months, there is a very obvious confidence building in Basketball Otago’s ability to host successful events and manage the support of these invaluable sponsors.”
