The under-14s provided the only wins on a tough day two for the New Zealand Koru Tour development teams at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in Albury, New South Wales, on Tuesday.

On a day punctuated by extreme heat, the 11 Kiwi teams combined to go 3-15, with all three wins coming from the youngest age-group.

The under-14 Kea boys defeated South Australia Sharks 77-51 in their morning tilt before dropping to 2-1 with a 74-71 loss to the Victoria Goldminers in the afternoon, while the Koru boys edged the SA Magpies 66-62 to remain unbeaten before falling 82-60 to the New South Wales Kookaburras.

The under-14 Kea girls accounted for the SA Sharks 61-50, but couldn’t stay undefeated in the afternoon, going down 68-59 to the Vic Goldminers.

It was a fruitless day for the older age-groups, with the under-16s and under-18s going 0-10. The under-16 Kea boys were the closest, falling 72-69 to the SA Sharks to sit at 1-1.

The under-16 teams will do double duty on day three, with both the boys and girls Kea squads still in line for the playoffs.
