CPS Nelson Giants rookie head coach Chris Tupu has been fined an undisclosed amount for a breach of conduct.
During a live halftime television interview during the Giants’ round two Dominion Finance NBL game against the Waikato Pistons in Te Awamutu on Thursday night, Tupu committed a verbal indiscretion, deemed to bring the NBL into disrepute.
“The League is the showpiece of the sport and we must make every attempt to insure the integrity of the League is upheld,” said NBL judicial commissioner Colin Tilley.
“It’s been an unfortunate incident and one we’re confident will not be repeated in the too distant future.”
Tupu, in his first year as head coach at Nelson after serving as assistant to Tall Blacks coach Nenad Vucinic last season, has led the Giants to the top of the NBL standings after two rounds, with a 3-1 record after two tough road double-headers.
The Giants host the Century City Wellington Saints to tip-off round three on Thursday night at the Trafalgar Centre, live on Sky Sport 1 from 7pm.
