Basketball New Zealand Age-Group Premierships

The 56 teams for the Oreo Under-17 and Under-19 National Basketball Championships have been found after eight zone premierships around the country were completed Monday.

Three associations – Harbour, Waitakere and Canterbury - qualified five teams for the national tournaments, while two others – Waikato and Nelson – qualifed a team in all four championships. Harbour, in zone one, was the only association to win all four zone titles, while Waikato in zone two and Wellington in zone three each brought three premierships home.

Harbour qualified two under-17 boys teams, Waitakere two under-19 boys teams and Canterbury two under-17 boys teams.

The Under-17 nationals will be held at the Edgar Centre, Dunedin, and the Under-19 nationals at the Queen Elizabeth Events Centre, Tauranga, both from May 30-June 2. The Under-17s will feature 32 teams (16 boys and 16 girls) and 24 teams (12 boys and 12 girls) will contest the Under-19s.

Associations have until Friday, May 2 to confirm their national championship entry.
