In a repeat of the under-17 decider earlier in the day in Dunedin, North Harbour got the better of Wellington 74-71 in the boy’s title game of the Oreo Under-19 National Basketball Championships at Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in Tauranga.

Led by tournament MVP Junior Tall Black Rob Loe, Harbour also had Zac Fitzgerald selected to the 10-strong tournament team, while Hemi Lewington and Micah Lepaio were selected for Wellington. Porirua edged Otago 94-91 in the third-fouth playoff.

MVP Erin Rooney led Canterbury to the girl’s championship, out-lasting Waitakere 63-56. Team-mates Hannah MacKay and Harriet Fenwick were also named to the tournament team, while Waitakere also had three players – Chevannah Paalvast, Kate Alemann and Adoniah Lewis – included. In the consolation game, North Harbour routed New Plymouth 74-44.
